Build Something is a technology studio located in the State of North Carolina, United States. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through buildsomethingco.com and in the course of our client work.
Project intake submissions: your name, work email, phone number, company name, company website, the project types you select, your project description and the problem you are solving, project stage, budget range, timeline and target launch date, and any additional notes you provide.
Client engagement information: contact details, correspondence, contract and billing information, and any materials or credentials you choose to share with us to deliver the work.
Automatically collected information: IP address, browser and device type, referring pages, pages viewed and interaction events, collected through standard server logs and analytics.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal information, and we ask that you not include them in intake submissions.
To respond to your inquiry, prepare proposals, scope and deliver services, and communicate about active engagements.
To invoice and maintain business records, to secure and improve our site and services, to understand which content is useful, and to detect and prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
To send occasional updates about our services where you have asked to receive them or where permitted by law. You can opt out at any time.
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on: performance of a contract (delivering requested services), our legitimate interests (site security, analytics, responding to business inquiries), consent (marketing communications and non-essential analytics where required), and legal obligations (tax and accounting records).
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information with service providers that operate our business under contract: website and application hosting, our managed database and backend platform, analytics (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager), email delivery, and accounting or payment processors.
We may also disclose information where required by law or valid legal process, to protect our rights, safety or property, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies for essential site function and for analytics via Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, which help us understand aggregate traffic and usage.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies may affect some site features.
Intake submissions are retained for up to twenty-four (24) months where no engagement follows, so we can respond to renewed inquiries. Client and financial records are retained for the duration of the engagement plus the period required by law, typically seven (7) years. Analytics data is retained on our provider's standard schedule.
You may ask us to delete your submission sooner; see your rights below.
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit, access controls on our database, restricted credentials and least-privilege access for our team.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send passwords, payment card numbers or other secrets through the intake form.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to appeal a denied request.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@buildsomethingco.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law, typically within forty-five (45) days. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
Our site and services are intended for businesses and are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information, email privacy@buildsomethingco.com and we will delete it.
We operate in the United States, and information we collect is processed there. If you access the site from outside the United States, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. under safeguards required by applicable law.
